About AHEDIS
Explore how it drives the digital transformation of healthcare education by strengthening academic capacities, advancing AI-powered learning, and aligning higher education with real-world healthcare needs.
About the AHEDIS Project
AHEDIS is dedicated to bridging gaps in health equity research and leveraging advanced data
science to inform prevention, diagnosis, and tailored interventions. The project unites partners
across sectors and geographies to co-create solutions that improve health outcomes and
strengthen research capacity within and beyond the region.

Education, Transformation, and Innovation
The AHEDIS project is structured around the core principle of education, transformation, and innovation. It addresses identified skill gaps among academic staff through targeted training and mentoring, supports the adoption of innovative pedagogical and digital methodologies, and enables institutional transformation through improved infrastructure and governance. This integrated approach ensures that knowledge gained through education translates into sustainable institutional change and innovation-driven practice.
Multidisciplinary and International Consortium
The AHEDIS consortium brings together a diverse and multidisciplinary partnership of higher education institutions, research organizations, healthcare providers, industry representatives, and non-academic stakeholders from the Western Balkans and the European Union. This broad composition ensures a strong combination of academic excellence, clinical expertise, digital innovation, and policy-relevant experience. By integrating perspectives from multiple sectors and geographic contexts, the consortium enables effective knowledge exchange, high-quality implementation, and sustainable impact across education, research, and professional practice.

THEMATIC PILLARS
The AHEDIS project is designed to address specific skill gaps among academic staff in HEIs, to implement
innovative learning and teaching methods in academia and to design innovative LLL courses for
healthcare professionals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. In doing so, the project is
conceptualized around the principle education – transformation – innovation.
Project methodology
Project methodology is presented through six work packages that cover the horizontal tasks of project management and dissemination activities, that are explained in more detail in their dedicated sections, as well as all preparation, development and implementation steps in between. WPs are coherent, related to the project SOs, and realistic with time-bound deliverables and clear quantitative indicators of success. WPs will be based on the results produced in the previous WPs (e.g., training in digital technologies will be developed based on previously performed needs analysis of academic staff at WBC HEIs).
Mission
The mission of AHEDIS project is to strengthen higher education and lifelong learning in the health domain by advancing equitable, data-intensive, and digitally enabled approaches to education, research, and professional practice. Through interdisciplinary collaboration between academia, healthcare institutions, industry, and civil society, AHEDIS aims to enhance institutional capacities, modernize curricula, and support inclusive access to high-quality health education aligned with societal needs.
Vision
AHEDIS envisions a resilient and internationally connected health education ecosystem in the Western Balkans that leverages data, digital technologies, and innovation to promote health equity. The project aspires to establish sustainable models of excellence in education and lifelong learning, empowering future healthcare professionals and researchers to deliver patient-centred, evidence-based, and technologically advanced healthcare across the region and beyond.
